Reichweiler is a municipality in the Kusel district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Kusel-Altenglan .
geography
Reichweiler lies at the foot of the Prussian mountains in Westrich on the border with Saarland . Neighboring communities are Eckersweiler , Herchweiler and Pfeffelbach and the town of Schwarzerden in the neighboring Saarland.
history
In 1816 Reichweiler came to the Principality of Lichtenberg , a newly created exclave of the Duchy of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld and, from 1826, the Duchy of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha . With this it fell to Prussia in 1834 , which created the St. Wendel district from this area . After the separation of the main part to the newly created Saar area , the remaining district of Sankt Wendel-Baumholder was created in 1920 , to which the place belonged until 1937, when it was incorporated into the Birkenfeld district. In 1969 it was reclassified to the Kusel district.

The municipal council in Reichweiler consists of twelve council members, who were elected by a majority vote in the local elections on May 26, 2019 , and the honorary local mayor as chairman.

Karsten Becker became mayor of Reichweiler on June 13, 2014. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was confirmed in his office for another five years with 81.73% of the vote.
Becker's predecessor Bernd Hoffmann had held the office for 25 years.
