The local community Steinbach am Glan is located in the Kusel district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Upper Glantal . Contrary to what the name addition suggests, Steinbach is not located on the Glan, but in the valley of the Henschbach, a tributary of the Glan.

location
The community is located in the North Palatinate Bergland within its sub-area Kuseler Bergland and Brücken-Steinbacher Karboninsel . In addition to the two districts, the Römertalhof residential area also belongs to the community. Neighboring communities are - clockwise - Wahnwegen , Henschtal , Börsborn , Brücken , Ohmbach and Herschweiler-Pettersheim .
Elevations and waters
Steinbach am Glan lies on both sides of the Henschbach , which is alternatively called Steinbach here in the upper reaches . The Steinbach district is on the right and the Frutzweiler district on the left side of the water. The stream has its source on the western edge of the village, flows in a north-easterly direction and takes the Hodenbach from the left about a kilometer below the village or unites with it. From the lowest point of the valley at around 260 meters above sea level, the terrain rises significantly on both sides. The Habachgraben also rises in the far south of the municipality .
On the right side of the stream are with the Schnepfenrech 417 m above sea level. NHN and with the Steinberg including its main summit Kahlenberg 406 m above sea level. NHN , while on the left there is a maximum of 367 meters.
history
From 1798 to 1814, when the Palatinate was part of the French Republic (until 1804) and then part of the Napoleonic Empire , the place was incorporated into the canton of Waldmohr . In 1815 Ulmet initially belonged to Austria . After the Congress of Vienna , it was added to Bavaria a year later . From 1818 to 1862 the community continued to belong to the canton of Waldmohr and was part of the Landkommissariat Homburg , which was then converted into a district office .
Since part of the district office - including Homburg itself - was added to the newly created Saar area in 1920 , the place moved to the Kusel district office and was administered by a branch office located in Waldmohr that existed until 1940 . In 1939 the place was incorporated into the Kusel district. After the Second World War , Steinbach am Glan became part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate within the French occupation zone . In the course of the first Rhineland-Palatinate administrative reform , the neighboring town of Frutzweiler was incorporated into Steinbach on June 7, 1969. Three years later, Steinbach was incorporated into the newly formed community of Glan-Münchweiler . Since 2017 the place belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde Oberes Glantal .

Municipal council
The municipal council in Steinbach consists of twelve council members, who were elected in a personalized proportional representation in the local elections on May 26, 2019 , and the honorary local mayor as chairman. A majority election took place in 2009 .

Jörg Fehrentz (SPD) became the local mayor of Steinbach in 2014. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was confirmed in his office for a further five years with a share of the vote of 54.07%.

Mining used to be practiced in the area of the municipality. A pit existed until the 20th century.
traffic
The B 423 runs through the village . From this the district road 8 branches off , which leads via Börsborn to Gries . In the northeast is the A 62 . In Glan-Münchweiler there is a train station on the Landstuhl – Kusel railway line .
leisure
The Naturfreundehaus Am Haselrech on the height between Steinbach and Börsborn is a popular hiking destination. There are also three Nordic walking trails of various difficulties that belong to the NatureFitness Park Haselrech, which was established by the Kusel district. A farm road leads to the local recreation and leisure area Hodenbachtal . At the exit of Steinbach in the direction of Börsborn there is a water treading facility based on the Kneipp method.
