Rehweiler is a municipality in the Kusel district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Upper Glantal .

geography

The place is on the Glan in the West Palatinate . In the north is Matzenbach , in the south Glan-Münchweiler .

history

Rehweiler was first mentioned in a document in 1322. It arose in the 12th century from the division of the Reichardsweiler located on the other bank of the Glan . Rehweiler first belonged to the county of Veldenz , then to Pfalz-Zweibrücken . Reichardsweiler was part of the Reichsland Kaiserslautern, later it belonged to the Electoral Palatinate . From 1600 the two villages slowly merged again, now under the name Rehweiler.

Municipal council

The municipal council in Rehweiler consists of eight council members, who were elected in the local elections on May 26, 2019 in a majority vote, and the honorary local mayor as chairman.

Frank Scholz became mayor of Rehweiler on January 21, 2015. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was confirmed in his office for a further five years with 87.70% of the vote.

Scholz's predecessors were briefly elected in July and resigned on November 30, 2014, Karl-Heinz Emrich, and previously Thomas Herbach.

The blazon of the coat of arms reads: "Above a raised shield base, inside a red arched bridge on silver, split by black and gold, inside a roebuck in mistaken tincture."

The roe buck symbolizes the place name, the bridge the Glan bridge as a connection between the divided place. The change of colors also refers to this. Gold and black were the colors of the Wittelsbachers who ruled both in the Electoral Palatinate and in Pfalz-Zweibrücken.

Economy and Infrastructure

The B 423 runs through the village . The A 62 is in the south . In Rehweiler there is a train station on the Landstuhl – Kusel railway line .
