The place is located in the Talbachtal between the Königberg (in the east), the Bornberg (in the southwest) and the Herrmannsberg (in the west) in the North Palatinate Bergland . Hinzweiler is to the north and Eßweiler to the south .
history
Oberweiler was first mentioned in a document in 1290. The place belonged to the administrative complex Eßweiler Tal . Around 1300 the Sprengelburg was built in the south on a foothill of the Königsberg. The lords of the castle were the knights of Mulenstein, feudal men of the wild counts .
The Neideck farm also belonged to the knights of Mülenstein and was first mentioned as Nydeckin farm around 1400 . It is said to be located in Bornberg between Graulsdell and Zähreberg. In 1595, according to Johannes Hofmann, the farm was no longer managed and fell into disrepair. In a map from 1843 Neideck was registered as a Kratzerhof (perhaps after Count Kratz von Scharfenstein, successor to the Mülensteiners in the administration of the Eßweiler valley), north of it a Gewanne Hofstatt. Possibly this estate was fortified like a castle.
In 1595 Oberweiler and the entire Eßweiler valley became part of the Duchy of Pfalz-Zweibrücken . In 1755 it switched back to the Wildgraves. After 1792 the Left Bank of the Rhine was taken by French revolutionary troops and the region was incorporated into the French Republic . From 1798 to 1814 Oberweiler belonged to the canton Wolfstein in the Département du Mont-Tonnerre (Donnersberg). From 1816 until the end of the First World War to the Kingdom of Bavaria , then to the Free State of Bavaria . Oberweiler in the valley has belonged to Rhineland-Palatinate since 1946 . With the formation of the Verbandsgemeinde Wolfstein on January 1, 1972, the Eßweiler mayor responsible for Oberweiler im Tal was dissolved. The community has been part of the Lauterecken-Wolfstein community since 2014.
Between 1700 and 1789, mercury was mined in the district.
In 1609 there were 135 inhabitants in Oberweiler, in 1802 there were 229.
