Oberweiler-Tiefenbach is a municipality in the Kusel district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Lauterecken-Wolfstein association.
geography
The local community is located on the Lauter northeast of Königsberg in the North Palatinate Bergland . The former also forms the western municipal boundary. Within the municipality it takes on the Breitbach from the right . Wolfstein is in the south , Reckweilerhof , which belongs to Wolfstein , in the northwest , Einöllen to the east and Hohenöllen to the north .
history
Oberweiler was first mentioned in a document in 1290. To distinguish the nearby Oberweiler in the valley , it was sometimes also called Unterweiler. Tiefenbach was first mentioned in 1316. In 1387 the places came to the county of Veldenz . From 1694 they belonged to Pfalz-Zweibrücken . As part of an exchange of territory, they came to the Electoral Palatinate in 1768 .
From 1798 to 1814, when the Palatinate was part of the French Republic (until 1804) and then part of the Napoleonic Empire , the two places were incorporated into the canton of Wolfstein . In 1815 they first belonged to Austria . After the Congress of Vienna , they were added to Bavaria a year later . From 1818 to 1862 they continued to belong to the canton of Wolfstein and were part of the Kusel Land Commissioner , which was subsequently converted into a district office. In 1824 Oberweiler and Tiefenbach were merged into one municipality.
In 1939 the community was incorporated into the Kusel district. After the Second World War , Oberweiler-Tiefenbach became part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate within the French occupation zone . In the course of the first Rhineland-Palatinate administrative reform , Oberweiler-Tiefenbach became part of the Wolfstein community in 1972 . The place has belonged to the Lauterecken-Wolfstein community since 2014 .

The Catholics belong to the diocese of Speyer and are subordinate to the Deanery Kusel , the Evangelicals to the Protestant Church of the Palatinate .

The municipal council in Oberweiler-Tiefenbach consists of six council members, who were elected by a majority vote in the local elections on May 26, 2019 , and the honorary local mayor as chairman.

Economy and Infrastructure
traffic
To the west of the community the federal highway 270 runs past. District road 56 runs through the middle of Oberweiler and Tiefenbach . The state road 384 runs through the south of the municipality markings without touching the settlement area.
The Lautertalbahn stops in Wolfstein and Reckweilerhof . Between them existed from 1883 the Oberweiler stop , which was renamed Oberweiler-Tiefenbach in 1898 . It was used exclusively for passenger traffic and was accordingly run as a type 1 station during the time of the Bavarian State Railways. It was given up in 1912 for lack of profitability.
