Schönenberg-Kübelberg is the largest local community in terms of population in the Kusel district in Rhineland-Palatinate . Schönenberg-Kübelberg is the administrative seat of the Verbandsgemeinde Oberes Glantal , to which it also belongs. The town center, which has now grown together, forms an economic and transport focus in the south of the Kusel district. According to state planning, the local community is designated as the basic center.
geography
The place is in the West Palatinate near the border with Saarland . In the north there are the places Brücken and Gries / Pfalz , in the east Bruchmühlbach-Miesau , in the south Waldmohr and to the west is Dunzweiler . The following larger towns can be reached quickly: the Saarland district town of Homburg and the regional center of Kaiserslautern .
history
In the district of Kübelberg there was a medieval tower hill castle , the Kübelberg Castle .
Today's local community Schönenberg-Kübelberg was re-formed on June 7, 1969 as part of the first Rhineland-Palatinate administrative reform from the previously independent communities Kübelberg , Sand , Schmittweiler and Schönenberg .

The local council in Schönenberg-Kübelberg consists of 22 council members, who were elected in a personalized proportional representation in the local elections on May 26, 2019 , and the honorary local mayor as chairman.

Thomas Wolf (CDU) became the local mayor of Schönenberg-Kübelberg on August 22, 2019. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was elected for five years with 50.21% of the vote.
Wolf's predecessor Josef Weis (CDU) had held the office for 15 years, but did not start again in 2019.
Economy and Transport
Schönenberg-Kübelberg has grown into a local supply and service center due to its central location in the southern district of Kusel. There are several supermarkets and discounters as well as numerous specialty stores for house and handicraft-related needs, a few car dealers with car workshops, a large car scrapping and recycling company, craft businesses for construction and building services, a construction company, a building materials wholesaler as well as lawyers, doctors and Bank branches.
Schönenberg-Kübelberg is connected to national road traffic via the federal highway 423 ( Mandelbachtal - Altenglan ). The federal motorway 6 (AS Waldmohr ) runs about five kilometers south, and the A 62 (AS Kusel ) about 13 km northeast .
The former station of the disused Glantalbahn in town has been abandoned. In Homburg and in Bruchmühlbach-Miesau , which is even closer, there are stations on the Mannheim – Saarbrücken railway . Public transport is guaranteed with numerous bus connections in almost all directions.
