Theo Carlen (born April 30, 1928 in Schmittweiler , Kusel district; † April 14, 1984 in Mandelbachtal -Ormesheim, Saarpfalz district) was a German politician ( CDU ). He was the first mayor of the municipality of Mandelbachtal, which was newly created in 1974 as part of the Saarland regional and administrative reform. Carlen was elected mayor by the Mandelbachtal local council in 1974 and 1984. He died shortly after his re-election in 1984.

Carlen joined the public service in August 1945 as an administrative apprentice at the Kübelberg community . From October 1, 1957 to June 30, 1963 he was the executive officer of the municipality of Leistadt . On July 1, 1963, he took over the same function in the former municipality of Ormesheim .

After the dissolution of this municipality on December 31, 1973, the Saarland Minister of the Interior entrusted him with the office of mayor. On July 30, 1974, the local council unanimously elected him from all 31 council members present as the first full-time mayor of the newly created community of Mandelbachtal . On March 30, 1984, he was re-elected in this office by a large majority of 24 of the 33 council members present.

During his tenure, he was faced with the difficult situation of merging eight formerly independent communities into one functioning large community.

Theo-Carlen-Platz and Theo-Carlen-Schule, both in the municipality of Ormesheim , were named after Theo Carlen .
