Culture and sights
Buildings
Shortly before the village, coming from Saarbrücken , at the junction to Ensheim , you will find the Gassenmühle in the Ensheim district. The alley mill is an old ban mill of the Wadgassen monastery . Between 300 and 400 years old, it was once used as a mill for the people of Ensheim. In Ormesheim itself there are some beautiful old houses and various crossroads from the 18th century, for example at the small Marienkapelle, the so-called "Strudelpeter-Kapelle" (1730), to which one has to turn into the village and then to the south into the Height, towards Blieshaben-Bolchen . In the list of monuments of the Saarland, the chapel is a single monument listed.
In the center of the village is the listed Catholic parish church of St. Mauritius , which was built in 1932 according to plans by Professor Albert Boßlet (1880–1957) in neo-Romanesque style. The church building is built on the foundations of a previous building from the 14th century.
Also worth seeing: the Neumühle with the so-called “Sulgerhof” (1563), the former official residence of the Elector of Trier Sulger. Remains from the second half of the 16th century have been preserved. The 19th century Ponsheimer Hof is also of interest. In the past, the now submerged town of Ponsheim (grave finds from the 7th century) was located in the same place .
Further sights: The Heidenkopf tower , a 12 m high observation tower on the Heidenkopf in the Kirchenwald, the Naturfreundehaus am Koppelwald, the cultural landscape center Lochfeld (in the district of Wittersheim), the optical telegraph (in the district of Bebelsheim) and the Gräfinthal natural stage (in the district of Blieshaben- Bolchen).
