Blieshaben-Bolchen is a municipality in the Mandelbachtal municipality in the Saar- Palatinate district . It includes the former villages of Blieshaben and Bliesbolchen, which, however, have always been closely connected with each other. Around 1900 the villages grew together spatially and united. Locals still distinguish between Quantity , Bolche and the settlement that emerged during the Nazi era . The motto of Blieshaben-Bolchen is, in the Saarland dialect , "Where young and old sesammehalt" ("Where young and old stick together").

Blieshaben-Bolchen, part of the municipality of Mandelbachtal, is located in the southern Bliestal in the Saarpfalz district in Saarland . The place is on the Blies directly on the French border, and is connected to the place Blies-Schweyen by means of a footbridge over the Blies . The district is very hilly and has an agricultural character.

Blieshaben-Bolchen is located entirely within the Bliesgau Biosphere Reserve . The Bliesauen on the southwestern edge of the village are marked as a bird sanctuary. On the northern edge are the slopes near Gräfinthal , which were declared a nature reserve in 2004.

The climate is influenced by the Atlantic. The average annual precipitation is 786 mm, the rainiest time is in the spring months. The mean annual temperature is 9 ° C. The long-term average temperature does not drop below 0 ° C even in January. The prevailing wind direction is west / southwest. The bio-climate is mild to irritant-friendly.

history

The first information about the settlement of this area or the stay of people in the pre-Roman era is given by the discovery of a cremation grave from the urnfield period from the Bronze Age .

There is ample evidence of Roman settlement in the area around Blieshaben-Bolchen. During construction and excavation work, the remains of Roman dwellings and graves as well as coins and pottery finds came to light. An intensive archaeological excavation has not yet been carried out. The advance of the Merovingian-Franconian settlers in this area in the 7th and 8th centuries as well as the overlapping of the Gallo-Roman population parts that remained in the country are documented by place names, patron saints and especially by archaeological finds. The first documentary mention took place through the renewal of the donation from Count Ludwig von Saar Werden to the Wörschweiler Monastery in 1180.

Blieshaben-Bolchen won the gold plaque in the federal competition Our village should be more beautiful in 1969.

On January 1, 1974, Blieshaben-Bolchen was incorporated into the new municipality of Mandelbachtal.

Blieshaben-Bolchen is mostly Catholic . The Catholic parish of St. Paulus is part of the Blieskastel parish association of the Saarpfalz dean's office in the Speyer diocese . The evangelical Christians belong to Protestant parish Ensheim that of a church in Ormesheim has, in at least once a month worship take place.

Theaters and museums

In the nearby Gräfinthal is the Gräfinthal natural stage , supported by the Blieshaben-Bolchen cultural association. The "House of Village History " run by the local history association has housed a local history museum on 300 m 2 of exhibition space since 1998 .

Buildings

The remains of the former Wilhelmitenkloster Gräfinthal , donated by Countess Elisabeth von Blieskastel, are very close to Blieshaben-Bolchen . The monastery is a place of pilgrimage to Mary and has been home to Benedictines again since 1993 .

There are two churches in the village: the old village church " St. Petrus in Ketten " and the new parish church "St. Paul ”. The high altar was transferred from the old church to the new one. It is originally the former altar of grace from the dissolved Gräfinthal monastery, a work by the regionally important artist Johann Martersteck (also Madersteck). Today in once on it Blieskastel located miraculous image of the " Madonna with the arrows " set up.

To the south of the town on the Blies there are small remains of the Mengen Castle , a moated castle from the 12th century.

Blieshaben-Bolchen is connected to the neighboring towns of Bliesransbach and Habkirchen via the L 105 . In Habkirchen there is a connection to the federal highway 423 . Furthermore, the L 238 branches off in the village, which connects with Ormesheim . The Fährmannsbrücke , a pedestrian bridge, leads over the Blies to the neighboring French town of Blies-Schweyen .
