Wittersheim is also shown on the map by geometer Tilemann Stella from 1564.

One of twelve Catholic parishes in the Blieskastel office was the parish consecrated to St. Martin in Wittersheim in 1607 .

Located on an old military road and very close to the state border, Wittersheim had always suffered very badly in the wars of all centuries. The village was almost completely destroyed in the Thirty Years' War .

The brothers Georg and Andreas Hamm from Wittersheim set up a bell foundry in the garden of their parents' mill in 1843 . Andreas Hamm created the third largest bell in the world at the time in Frankenthal in 1874 , the so-called imperial bell for Cologne Cathedral . She had a diameter of 3.25 m and a weight of 27 tons.

With the beginning of the Second World War , the 562 residents of Wittersheim, which was in the " Red Zone ", were evacuated. 29% of the evacuees did not return. On March 16, 1945 the US Army took Wittersheim. Only 3 of 124 houses remained undamaged by fighting. The degree of destruction was around 90%, so that almost no old building fabric was left. The community's utility facilities were also unusable.
