Shōji Toshishige

Shōji Toshishige

Shōji Toshishige ( Japanese東 海林 俊 成; * October 27, 1890 in Sendai ; † December 10, 1974 ) was a major general in the Imperial Japanese Army . Shōji graduated from the Military Academy in 1912 and graduated from Tōhoku University in 1939 as an officer .

After Shoji was assigned to the 2nd Supply Division in 1939, he was promoted to colonel on August 1 . Towards the end of the year he took over the Sendai regimental district. After the Japanese preparations for the offensives towards Southeast Asia began , Shoji was transferred to the 230th Infantry Regiment as a commanding officer on April 1, 1941 . The regiment landed under his leadership on March 1st of the following year on Java . Colonel Shōji received the surrender of the Dutch KNIL troops in Bandung on March 8th .

Shōji left the regiment again in 1943 and served again at the headquarters of the 2nd Supply Division before he was assigned as commander-in-chief of the 30th Security Unit that same year. On March 1, 1944, he was promoted to major general and was transferred to the position of head of administration in the recruiting office of the 5th Regional Army .

On March 31, 1945 Shōji Toshishige took over as commanding officer for the repeated time tasks in the Sendai district, which had meanwhile been renamed the Sendai regional command.

Two years later, the Canadian Army opened a war crimes trial against Shōji Toshishige in Hong Kong .
