Saarland Trofeo

The Saarland Trofeo (official: LVM Saarland Trofeo , until 2016: Trofeo Karlsberg , 2017: Trofeo of the municipality of Gersheim ) is an international cycling race for juniors . The namesake of the Trofeo, which has been held since 1988 and which was the only German race to date to be part of the Junior Cycling Nations Cup , was the main sponsor at the time, Karlsberg from Homburg , until 2016 . In 2017, the competition was renamed Trofeo of the municipality of Gersheim . In 2017 the competition will operate under the name Saarland Trofeo .

The stage race for 17 and 18-year-olds is held around Saarbrücken , Gersheim , Mandelbachtal , Homburg and Blieskastel . The route repeatedly leads through neighboring France and the federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate. In 1994 the Trofeo was upgraded to a World Cup race by the UCI World Cycling Association .

Numerous national and regional teams from all continents register for this race every year. The start and winners list of the previous races contains well-known cyclists. Previous participants include Andy Schleck , Manuel Quinziato , Davide Malacarne , André Steensen , Niki Terpstra , Robert Gesink , Jean-Patrick Nazon , Mathieu Perget , Tom Boonen , Peter Velits , Ralf Grabsch , Holger Loew , Jörg Jaksche , Matthias Kessler , Markus Fothen , Gerald Ciolek , Grischa Niermann , Björn Schröder , Patrick Sinkewitz , Stefan Schumacher , Marcel Kittel and the Tour de France winner Jan Ullrich .
