Dominik Nerz (born August 25, 1989 in Wangen im Allgäu ) is a former German racing cyclist .

Athletic career

Mink started cycling at school age . At the age of 17 he became German track cycling champion in the junior class team pursuit in 2006 . The following year he won a stage in the junior class and the overall ranking at the Giro di Toscana . At the Trofeo Karlsberg , he won a section and was second overall. He was also first in the overall standings at the Tour du Valromey , the International Cottbus Tour and the Napoleon Cup . In 2007, Nerz finally became German mountain champion and won the overall ranking of the cycling Bundesliga in the junior class.

As a U23 driver, Nerz drove for the Ista team in 2008 and for the German Continental Team Milram in 2009 . For the farm team of the UCI ProTeam Milram he celebrated his greatest success in 2009 when he won the German U23 road championship. He then received a contract with ProTeam Milram in 2010.

After the team was disbanded, Nerz was signed by the Italian team Liquigas-Cannondale , for which he competed in two major national tours as assistant to Vincenzo Nibali with the Vuelta a España 2011 and the Tour de France 2012 and which he finished in 38th and 47th.

In 2013 he switched to the BMC Racing Team and, in fourth of the difficult 16th stage of the Vuelta a España 2013, narrowly missed a victory in a WorldTour race . He finished the tour in tenth place overall. At the Vuelta a España 2014 he finished 18th overall, although he lost more than six minutes on the 4th stage after he had to give his team captain Cadel Evans his front wheel after a defect.

In 2015, Nerz was hired by the German Professional Continental Team Bora-Argon 18 as captain for the Grand Tours . Due to illnesses caused by some racing accidents, however, he was unable to meet the team's expectations. At the end of the 2016 season, Nerz, who suffered several head injuries in races and complained of headaches, dizziness and disorientation, ended his career as a racing cyclist for health reasons at the age of 27.
