The German Mountain Championship is a German championship in road cycling awarded by the Federation of German Cyclists or its predecessor organization, the German Cyclist Association . In the area of the German Cycling Association of the GDR , GDR mountain championships were held.

The competition mode has changed several times: the bike race was partly held as a mountain time trial (or as an overall ranking of two mountain time trials), as a road race on a mountainous circuit (with or without a mountain finish ) or as a combination of a road race with a mountain time trial.

Until 2010, the mountain championship was mostly held as a circuit race. In 2011, the championship was held as a combination of two races: a mountain time trial as a qualification run and a road race based on the Gundersen method known from cross-country skiing and Nordic combined , i.e. the drivers start the subsequent pursuit race with the time intervals from the qualification. In 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 the championship was held as a pure mountain time trial, but again as a circuit race since 2016.
