Jörg Koehler

Jörg Köhler (born September 7, 1960 in Meilitz ; † October 16, 2005 there ) was a German racing cyclist .

Athletic career

Heinz Hiepe taught Jörg Köhler the ABC of cycling at SG Dynamo Gera . From 1973 he was trained in the newly founded SG Wismut Gera by Werner Marschner .

In 1974, with Thomas Barth , Udo Smektalla and Olaf Ludwig - all 14 years old - he won the bronze medal of the GDR road championships in children's class A. He won a title in the races of the children's and youth spartakiad in 1977.

In 1981 and 1982 he drove the International Peace Tour for the GDR . In 1982, together with Falk Boden , Thomas Barth , Lutz Lötzsch , Olaf Ludwig and Andreas Petermann, he won the team championship of the Friedensfahrt. He had his best individual result in 1982 with 22nd place.

On the Werner-Seelenbinder-Halle track in Berlin, he won the "International Two-Team Championship" in 1984 with Gerald Mortag. as a partner.

After the end of his active career, the trained car mechanic acquired his master craftsman's certificate and worked as a mechanic. After the fall of the Wall, he opened a cycling shop in Meilitz , was still one of the supporters and sponsors of SSV Gera in 1990 , and took special care of the youngsters. He succumbed to heart failure in Meilitz at the age of 45 .
