Horst Willgruber

Horst Willgruber (born May 13, 1947 in Leipzig ) is a former German cyclist .

Athletic career

Horst "Wille" Willgruber began his career at ASK Vorwärts Leipzig . He was considered a talented track driver , which he underpinned in 1965 by winning two titles (in the 2000 meter time trial and in the two-man team driving ) at the GDR youth track championships. Willgruber, known as "Willi", was the GDR champion in two-man team driving with his club-mate Hans Joachim Haustein in 1969 on the Berlin-Weißensee cycling track . In 1964 he was already second in this discipline. Also in 1969 and with Hans Joachim Haustein he won the international championship in two-man team driving on the track in the Werner-Seelenbinder-Halle in Berlin . Willgruber also contested road races , his best result was third place in the race around the Sachsenring in 1970. He also contested the Tour of Poland in 1970 (45th place). After finishing his competitive sports career, he remained active in various age groups for years. In October 1981 he was able to win the Old Man Race organized by the FRC 90 Frankfurt an der Oder in the state of Brandenburg .

Professional

Horst Willgruber completed an apprenticeship as a machine fitter . After finishing his career, he worked as a mechanic at ASK Vorwärts from 1974 to 1992.
