The Werner-Seelenbinder-Halle has been one of the most important sports facilities in Berlin since 1950 . It was located at Paul-Heyse-Straße 26 in Prenzlauer Berg . The hall was demolished in 1992. Today the Velodrome and the swimming and diving hall in the Europa Sportpark are located on their premises .
The Werner-Seelenbinder-Halle was created by converting an old wholesale market hall of the central cattle and slaughterhouse in preparation for the 1st youth meeting in Germany . It got its name after the Berlin resistance fighter against National Socialism and wrestler Werner Seelenbinder .
The hall was used for political events, concerts, trade fairs and sporting events. It was rebuilt in 1966/67, after which the character of a sports hall dominated. The local cycling track was built in every year for the cycling races, which were usually held from December to February. It had a length of 171 meters, a width of 6 meters and a curve superelevation of 51 degrees.
