Endgame - field
(August 1, 1965)
SC Leipzig - SC Dynamo Berlin 19:15
In the last final in the history of the GDR handball championship, SC Leipzig got off to a furious start. With surprising moves and great willingness to run, the insecure dynamo defense was overrun, after eleven minutes the Leipzig team led 5-0. At SC Dynamo no player reached normal form, promising counter moves were in short supply. The young players Meißner and Schäfer seemed overwhelmed. The SC Leipzig could also rely on its defense, which was carefully organized by Captain Winkler. Over the entire duration of the game, the SC offered a harmoniously coordinated team in which all the players surpassed themselves. With the half-time score of 12: 7, the game was already decided in principle. When the Dynamo coach ordered the total offensive and Böhnisch and Hildebrandt inflamed more pressure, the Berliners got better into the game, but ultimately did not find the means to turn the game around. They had the opportunity in the closing stages, when two Leipzig players had to go to the penalty bench five minutes before the end of the game, and it was not enough to get more than four goals at SC Leipzig.
