The handball GDR Oberliga (men) 1970/71 was used to determine the master in indoor handball in the GDR .

Season course

The league games with ten teams as usual began on October 3, 1970 and ended on February 7, 1971. The defending champion was SC Magdeburg , but could not defend his title. The new handball champions of the GDR was SC Dynamo Berlin with two points ahead of the Magdeburg team. The BSG Post Schwerin was the only newcomer to qualify in the 1970 relegation round. In the relegation in 1971, the BSG Chemie Premnitz missed relegation in the 1970/71 season.

3,226 goals were scored in the 90 league games played in the first and second leg mode. Most goals were scored in the match between Chemie Premnitz and SC Empor Rostock with the final score of 20:30. The SC Empor Rostock achieved the highest victory in a 36-13 home win over Chemie Premnitz. Heinz Flacke from SC Magdeburg was the top scorer with 137 goals .
