Handball GDR Championship 1951/52
The handball GDR championship 1951/52 was held in the disciplines of field and indoor handball for men and women. The SG Volkspolizei Halle became GDR champions both in the hall and on the field.
Men
Field handball
The GDR men's field handball champions were determined with the field handball league of the German game committee. Twelve teams took part in the single-track league and played a double round. The first half of the season took place in the summer and autumn of 1951. Since after the conclusion of the league with the SG Volkspolizei Halle and the BSG Einheit Calbe two teams were tied at the top, a final had to be played according to the regulations.

The advantages lay initially with the team from Calbe , which was not impressed by the robustly playing Halle defense. Halle scored the first goal, but in the 6th minute it was already 2: 1 for the BSG unit. After a quarter of an hour Calbe was leading 4-1, then the Aßmann from Calbens awarded a penalty and the game took a dramatic turn. The People's Police were able to equalize by half-time, after which they achieved an 8: 5 lead within six minutes. The victory, which was now believed to be safe, was in danger again. Calbe managed to tie again at 8: 8 within eight minutes. The team would almost have taken the lead again if another penalty had not been awarded by the most accurate Calbenser Kraatz to date. On the other hand, the people of Halle used their chances better and pulled away again 10: 8. Three minutes before the end, Kraatz managed to hit the next goal, but the SG Volkspolizei defended their one-goal lead until the final whistle.
Indoor handball
The 1952 indoor handball championship was held in January. Until the third week the five national champions were determined in tournament form:

While the GDR sports committee wanted SC Weißensee , which was the only East Berlin team to be represented in the overall Berlin handball league, to take part in the GDR championship, as in previous years , the West Berliners protested that the finals Participation of the SC Weißensee the schedule of the Berlin Oberliga would be in danger. Shortly before the start of the final round, the GDR sports committee gave in and nominated the second-class East Berlin BSG Motor Friedrichshain Ost.

The SV Deutsche Volkspolizei Halle successfully defended last year's title thanks to better tactics. The cornerstone for the victory was the consistent elimination of the Luckenwalder attack peaks. The Halle cover had some difficulties at the beginning and granted the motor team the 1-0 lead. But after the defense had stabilized, Halle turned the game in his favor and clearly dominated until the 3-1 final score.
