The BSG Motor Eisenach was a company sports association from Eisenach .

history

After the Second World War , all clubs in the Soviet occupation zone were dissolved with the Control Council Act No. 2 and thus also SC Borussia Eisenach . As an unofficial successor, the SG Eisenach-West was founded with the participation of former players of the club , which was renamed SG Wartburg Eisenach the following year  . In June 1949, the SG Wartburg was reorganized as the central company sports association ZSG BMW Eisenach . The Eisenach automobile works acted as the sponsoring company , the then BGL chairman W. Müller took over the chairmanship of the association. In December 1949, the BSG already comprised 13 sports sections with 450 active members. In June 1950 the company sports club was renamed BSG Motor Eisenach .

As a manufacturer of motorcycles and automobiles, the automobile plant, which was initially under Soviet administration, had the best prerequisites for participating in German and international motor racing, so a significant part of the financial resources for the company's sports funding was for the needs of Eisenach motorsport for the racing department of the automobile plant and that state racing collective reserved. The handball department, boxing department, swimming athletes, table tennis, tennis and chess players also celebrated sporting successes in the 1950s. The winter sports division, which only operates seasonally, also enjoyed great interest. The soccer department had the largest number of members and was able to send several works teams to training at the same time.

The BSG athletes had the Werner-Seelenbinder-Halle, the Röse-Gymnasium, the Stadtbad Eisenach, the tennis court in Johannistal and the rooms of the AWE clubhouse at their disposal as training and competition venues. As part of the national reconstruction work , the company took over the management of the construction of the "Sports Facility of Peace", today a green area on Kasseler Strasse. The Wartburg Stadium as the largest sports facility in the city at the foot of the Michelskuppe was built around the same time on the former parade ground of the Eisenach garrison. In the 1950s there were still close contacts to West German, mostly Hessian soccer clubs and works teams in the automotive industry. 1950 Sportfreund Boecker became the new chairman of the BSG. The first company championships in football and handball took place in the sporting year 1952, at Whitsun 1952 the handball works team went to an international borderland tournament in Loerrach . The company championships of 1953 were expanded to include volleyball, bowling, tennis and athletics. The so-called “company mass sports organization” was tested in the AWE in 1954, and for the first time in the entire GDR, mass sports were organized in the BSG according to performance classes in football. For the first company sports festival in the Wartburg Stadium, the BSG already comprised eighteen sections and already had 1,000 members. 50 instructors who were also entrusted with recruiting young talent during extracurricular training in the company’s sponsored schools were committed to training. With the support of the regional sports association, the pupil departments in the gymnastics, swimming, hand and soccer sections were created. The number of BSG members with a sports badge was 700 members. The sports officials and trainers at the time, Heinz Riede, Horst Fulsche and Fred Buhler, were awarded a silver pin of honor for their excellent development work. At the request of the management, the motor racing section was founded in 1951, under the direction of Werner Hollack (himself a motorcycle racer). In the racing year 1953, Gottfried Pohlan was GDR road champion. Together with West German officials, the Wartburg Rally was conceived as a motorsport event and was successfully organized for the first time in 1955 with the participation of 26 West German teams. In February 1956, the Eisenach BSG team was GDR runner-up at the indoor handball tournament.

After reunification , the company sports community was split up into the sports club Wartburgstadt Eisenach and the ThSV Eisenach .

Departments

Field handball

In field handball , BSG Motor Eisenach won Season II of the GDR Oberliga in 1958 with one point ahead of BSG Motor Gohlis Nord and BSG Lok Südost Magdeburg . By winning the relay, they qualified for the game for the GDR championship. In the Kurt Wabbel Stadium in Halle an der Saale , the Eisenach team met SC Empor Rostock and secured the GDR field handball championship for the first and only time with a 13:11 win. The championship team consisted of:

Albert Rust - Oswald Hook, Günther Jäger, Dieter Weidlich, Dieter Illert, Wolfgang Eisenhardt, Frieder Singwald, Werner Reinartz, Hans Rodegast, Werner Aßmann, Horst Erhardt

In the 1959 season, the Eisenacher missed behind the SC Dynamo Berlin winning again the season II of the GDR league. In the GDR Oberliga in 1965, the Eisenacher could not qualify for the single-track GDR Oberliga by a sixth place in Season II and had to relegate to the GDR league. In the 1966 season she was sorted into Season IV of the GDR League and could win this season. As a result, they qualified for the promotion round to the GDR Oberliga and prevailed there together with SG Dynamo Halle-Neustadt against BSG BGW Berlin and BSG Lokomotive Dresden . In the 1967 season, the last GDR league season in field handball, the Eisenacher took seventh place.

Soccer

The company sports association was sorted into the district league Erfurt for the 1952/53 season and was able to win the district league in the second season and thus secure promotion to the GDR league . In the season 1954/55 they qualified by tenth place in season 2 of the GDR league not for the single-track GDR league, but had to relegate to the 2nd GDR league .

Because from 1956 the football leagues were played in the calendar year, the II. GDR League 1955 was a transition round without promotion and relegation. BSG Motor Eisenach took 14th and last place in the South Season. In the following season she was able to improve and held the class with a sixth place. In the 1957 season, the team was able to improve again and finished the season in fifth place.

For the 1958 season , the second GDR league was expanded to five seasons and the Eisenacher missed promotion to the GDR league in season 5 with second place behind BSG Motor Steinach . In the following season she could not build on the successes from the previous season and ended the season in sixth place. The 1960 season - the last season of the 2nd GDR League, which was played in the calendar year - ended the team from Eisenach in seventh place. In the 1961/62 season, BSG Motor Eisenach qualified for the GDR league by finishing third behind BSG Motor Weimar and BSG Motor Steinach.

In the GDR soccer league 1962/63 , the BSG was sorted into the south team and ended the season in last place. As a result, she had to take part in the qualifying round to remain in the  GDR league and was able to prevail in the group phase against BSG Motor Wema Plauen , ASG Vorwärts Zittau and BSG Motor Zschopau and met the BSG Lokomotive Halberstadt in the decider . With a 1-1 draw in the away game and a 5-0 home win, the Eisenachers remained in the GDR league. In the season 1963/64 they reached the league with twelfth place. Up until the 1969/70 season the Eisenacher could hold the class, but this season they finished in 14th place and they had to relegate to the district league.

After that, the team from Eisenach was able to move up to the GDR league twice, but could not stay in the new league for long. After one rose again in the season 1972/73 in the GDR league, one had to relegate immediately after one season as the table penultimate again. BSG Motor Eisenach made its last ascent in the 1980/81 season and at the end of the 1982/83 season BSG Motor Eisenach rose to the district league as the penultimate in the table.

As a GDR league team, BSG Motor Eisenach automatically qualified a total of 12 times to participate in the FDGB Cup . As the winner of the district cup in 1985 and 1988, the company sports association qualified for two more cup appearances. However, the Eisenach team did not get past the second main round in any cup season.

In the   all-time table of the GDR league, BSG Motor Eisenach ranks 54th among 199 teams after a total of twelve seasons. In the 2nd GDR League, the Eisenacher played a total of seven seasons and occupy eighth place in the all-time table of the 2nd GDR League with 131 teams.

After reunification , the soccer department and other departments founded the sports club Wartburgstadt Eisenach . In 1998, the football department started its own business as FC Wartburgstadt Eisenach . After a merger with SG Hörseltal Stedtfeld  and the football department of  ESV Lokomotive Eisenach , FC Eisenach was founded in 2011 .

Indoor handball

In the 1954/55 season, BSG Motor Eisenach qualified as champions of the Erfurt district league for the district championship finals and thus for the promotion round to the GDR league. In Group II, which was played in Bad Blankenburg , the Dessau team prevailed against BSG Motor Polysius Dessau , BSG Motor Fraureuth , SC Motor Jena and BSG Motor Zella-Mehlis Ost and qualified for the GDR league. In the first season in the GDR league, the team from Dessau sensationally won Season I as a newcomer and qualified for the game for the GDR championship. In the Thuringia Hall in Erfurt they met BSG Motor Rostock and lost Eisenach at 17:25. In the final, BSG Motor Eisenach used the following players:

Werner Hertel, Albert Rust - Dieter Weidlich, Werner Aßmann, Oswald Hook, Hans Rodegast, Heinz Hauk, Dieter Illert, Fritz Singwald, Günther Jäger, Werner Reinartz

In the season 1956/57 the Eisenacher won the season II of the GDR-Oberliga without a point loss before the SC Dynamo Berlin . In the game for the GDR championship in indoor handball, the Eisenach team met SC Empor Rostock , which had taken over the handball department of BSG Motor Rostock. In the Werner-Seelenbinder-Halle in Berlin , the Rostock team came out on top again at 5:15 p.m. The following players were used by BSG Motor Eisnach:

Werner Hertel - Günther Jäger, Fritz Singwald, Dieter Weidlich, Oswald Hook, Dieter Illert, Hans Rodegast, Gerhardt Schmidt, Heinz Hauck, Werner Assmann

In the 1957/58 season, only one league cup was held as a GDR championship. In Group C, which was held in Erfurt, the Eisenach team met BSG Motor Gohlis Nord , SC DHfK Leipzig and SC Lokomotive Leipzig . In third place, the team clearly missed out on progress. After not playing a major role in the GDR league in the following years, the Eisenacher missed qualification for the newly created GDR league with a seventh place in Season II of the GDR league in 1963/64 and had to continue in the GDR -Play league.

After the introduction of the GDR Oberliga, Eisenacher turned out to be a so-called elevator team . The BSG Motor Eisenach won the group south of the GDR league in 1964/65 and was allowed to move up to the GDR league together with the BSG ZAB Dessau . In last place, the Eisenacher finished the premiere season and had to relegate to the GDR league. In the season 1966/67 they won the group south of the GDR league without losing points and were allowed to complete their second GDR league season in the following season. In contrast to the first GDR league season, the company sports club was able to keep the class by finishing eighth. After the team from Eisenach had spent nine seasons in the GDR Oberliga without interruption, they had to relegate as the last from the GDR Oberliga in the tenth GDR Oberliga season in 1977.

In the GDR league 1980/81, the BSG Motor Eisenach won the season south due to the better goal difference compared to the BSG Chemie Piesteritz and rise as a climber directly back to the GDR league. In the GDR Oberliga 1981/82 they finished sixth as a climber and secured relegation. In the second season they secured eighth place just ahead of BSG Chemie Piesteritz and SG Dynamo Suhl-Mitte to stay in the GDR league. Until the last season of the GDR Oberliga, the BSG Motor Eisenach of the GDR Oberliga was retained. In the last GDR league season 1990/91, the successor handball club, ThSV Eisenach, took on.
