prehistory
From the creation of the GDR league system in 1954, the club played a total of 31 seasons in the handball league of the GDR and five seasons in the GDR league as the second highest division. In the handball GDR championship in 1955/56 and in the handball GDR championship in 1956/57 , the company sports association at that time succeeded in qualifying for the game for the GDR indoor handball championship. The first they lost against BSG Motor Rostock with 17:25 and the second they lost against HC Empor Rostock with 15:17. In 1958, the BSG Motor Eisenach won the East German championship in field handball .
history
After the turnaround and the 1989/90 season, ThSV Eisenach was founded on June 11, 1990 as the successor to BSG Motor Eisenach with regard to handball. After integrating the former and newly founded GDR clubs into the DHB's game operations , the ThSV has played a total of ten years in the first and 15 in the second division. In the Eternal Table of the Handball Bundesliga, the club is currently (as of April 2020) on 30th place.
The ThSV is known for its youth work. There is a handball boarding school and young players often make the leap into the club's first team.
