Zdeněk Vaněk (born July 19, 1968 in Jaroměř ) is a Czech handball coach and former handball player. He coached HSC 2000 Coburg in the 2nd handball league in the 2010/11 season .

Zdeněk Vaněk played in the ČSSR and in the Czech Republic with Dukla Prague and was with this team several times Czech champions. In September 1992 he moved to VfL Günzburg , from where he moved to HSV Suhl in July 1993, where he narrowly missed promotion to the 1st Bundesliga several times. This was achieved with the ThSV Eisenach , to which he switched in July 1997. From July 2000 to June 2001 he played for LTV Wuppertal and from July 2001 for TuS Nettelstedt . From July 2003 to September 2004 he played at Stralsund HV in the first German handball Bundesliga in defense.

After retiring as a player, Vaněk became a handball coach in 2004. In the 2004/2005 season he was in charge of the regional division TV Jahn Duderstadt , and from July 2005 to November 2006 he was in charge of the ThSV Eisenach in the second division . Then he was in the season 2007/2008 coach of the Thuringian league club SV Town & Country Behringen / Sonneborn, with whom he achieved relegation. With his former club Stralsunder HV he signed a two-year contract in June 2008 after its promotion to the first handball league and coached the team in the handball Bundesliga season 2008/2009 . Since the club did not receive the license for the 2009/10 season, the contract was dissolved. Zdeněk Vaněk coached SV Town & Country Behringen / Sonneborn again from the 2009/2010 season. In October 2010 he took over the training of the HSC 2000 Coburg team . In the summer of 2011, Hrvoje Horvat replaced him as coach of the men's team. Vaněk then became a club coach in the Coburg youth department.

Vaněk played 168 times for the Czech men's national handball team . He took part in the handball competitions of the Olympic Games in 1988 and 1992, as well as in three world championships and two European championships.

Zdeněk Vaněk is married and has two sons, one of whom Jakub Vaněk is a Czech junior handball player.
