In 2000, HSC 2000 Coburg-Neuses was founded by the Coburg handball community and TV Neuses to enable higher-class handball in Coburg. The HSG was founded in 1992 as a merger of TV Ketschendorf and TV 48 Coburg, and the Coburg gymnastics club joined two years later. In 2014 the association had 307 members.

The club's flagship is the first men's team to take first place in the Bavarian League in the 2001/02 season and to play in the Middle Regional League for the next three years. After a third place in the 2004/2005 season, a year later followed a second place in the Regionalliga Süd Staffel Ost and, due to the reorganization of the South German Handball Association via a promotion round in 2006, qualification for the Regionalliga Süd. In this league, the first team reached first place in the 2006/2007 season and was promoted to the second handball Bundesliga south , where fourth place in the table was achieved a year later. In the season 2009/2010 the team occupied the penultimate place in the table and in the following season the twelfth. Nevertheless, she had to relegate to the 3rd handball league, as only the first nine in the table had qualified for the newly created single-track 2nd handball Bundesliga.

After two seasons in the 3rd handball league east with fifth place in the 2011/12 season and third place in the 2012/13 season, the first men's team in the 2013/14 season became champions of the third season. Handball league and rose again to the 2nd handball Bundesliga. In the 2015/16 season, the first team of HSC 2000 Coburg made it to the handball league and the second team to the 3rd handball league .

The pure handball club HSC 2000 Coburg has three men's teams and several youth teams. The financing of the game operations in the first men's team was initially carried out by a GmbH of the club, which was transferred to HSC Coburg GmbH & Co. KG on July 1, 2016. The main sponsor has been the HUK-COBURG insurance company since 2003 .

The 2016/2017 season ended in the first division with the last place in the table. The HSC 2000 Coburg logo was changed for the 2017/2018 season.
