The HUK-COBURG arena is a ball sports hall in the Bavarian city of Coburg , Upper Franconia . It is located in the north of the city at the Coburg exit of the A73 in the Lauterer Höhe industrial park.

history

The city council decided on October 23, 2008 to build a ball sports hall in the Lauterer Höhe industrial park. A multifunctional hall was previously planned there, the construction of which was rejected by a referendum on April 22, 2007. Instead, the majority of voters spoke out in favor of a multifunctional hall on Schützenanger in the center of Coburg.

In January 2009, the city of Coburg initiated a competitive process in which the planning and construction of a pure sports hall should take place. On October 13, 2009, the City of Coburg signed a contract with Sport StadiaNet GmbH ( Düsseldorf ) for the turnkey construction of the hall at a fixed price of 15.36 million euros. The hall should be completed by December 31, 2010 and handed over to the city of Coburg. The groundbreaking for the hall took place on December 1st, 2009.

Due to organizational problems at the general contractor Sport StadiaNet, the hall was not completed on time. A contractual penalty provided for this was therefore due and confirmed in court by the Coburg Regional Court and the Bamberg Higher Regional Court. The opening finally took place on August 13, 2011. The naming rights for the hall were given by the city council on October 21, 2010 to the Coburg-based HUK-Coburg insurance group.

Dispute over the cost

After originally costs of 9.4 million euros had been mentioned by an advisor to the city in the city council and included in investment planning, the CSU parliamentary group in the city council set a special audit by the Bavarian Municipal Auditing Association in view of the contractual fixed price agreement of almost 15.4 million euros by. Its examination led to the result that the actual construction costs with the chosen building standard were by no means excessive, but normal. The city council made special demands on the architectural and urban design. The quality requirements were considered reasonable. The auditing association regarded the procedure with the involvement of the committees and parliamentary groups as exemplary.

In the final bill, the actual expenditure of 12.66 million euros for the city of Coburg resulted, since input tax could be deducted and Sport StadiaNet had to pay a contractual penalty of 768,000 euros due to the late completion of the hall.

description

The building envelope is oval. The length of the hall is 92.20 m, its width 66.80 m and its height 14.40 m. The playing field is 50 × 30 m in size and can be divided into three segments by dividing curtains. The hall height above the playing field is 9.61 m.

The HUK-COBURG arena offers space for a total of 3,530 spectators, namely 2,273 seats, 1,216 standing spaces, 6 press spaces and 35 disabled spaces.

Main user

In the hall, the HSC 2000 Coburg play their home games in the 2nd handball Bundesliga and the BBC Coburg in basketball its home games in the 2nd basketball Bundesliga ProB . Until the bankruptcy in 2016, the arena was also the home ground of VSG Coburg / Grub in the 1st volleyball Bundesliga and in the second division .

Operator, administration and management

The hall is operated by the city of Coburg as a public institution. The management and allocation of occupancy is carried out by the city's sports department. The general contractor is responsible for facility management for 15 years.
