The 2015/16 DHB-Pokal was the 42nd edition of the men's handball cup competition. From the 2015/16 season it was played for the first time in a new mode in which there is only one round before the round of 16. In the first round, 64 teams competed in 16 tournaments in “Final Four mode”.

Main rounds

1 round

For the first time, 64 teams from professional and amateur leagues took part in the first round draw on June 23, 2015. The first 16 teams in the Bundesliga , who finished in places 1 to 16 in the 2014/15 season , were in the first lottery pot. The first 16 teams of the second division , which occupied places 1 to 16 in the 2014/15 season , were in the second lottery pot. In the 3rd lottery pool there were 3 first and second division teams (each place 17-19), as well as the first and second place winners of each third division season . Furthermore, the two finalists of the previous amateur cup . In the 4th lottery pot were the third to sixth placed from each third division season. Second teams were not allowed to take part in the DHB Cup . The games of the 1st round, in which the clubs were geographically divided into a north and a south season, took place on 15/16. August 2015. The second division in lottery pot 2 had the right to host the tournament. Should they not be able to do so, the right went to the team in pot 3, then to the team from pot 4, and if they too were unable to meet the obligation, the decision went to the Bundesliga club in pot 1.

^(a)MT Melsungen appealed against the game evaluation because shortly before the end of the game the referee decided on seven meters for the lions due to a rule that was being tested and not applicable in the DHB Cup . The objection was upheld and the game had to be repeated.
