The Dessau-Roßlauer HV is a German handball club from Dessau-Roßlau in Saxony-Anhalt .

history

The predecessor of the DRHV 06 had been represented in the GDR league as BSG ZAB Dessau since the mid-1960s . After reunification, Dessauer SV ZAB played in the handball Bundesliga in the 1991/1992 season . Due to financial problems, the club was re-founded in 1996 as the Dessau handball club from 1996 . The Bundesliga team has been nicknamed the beavers since 2004 . After the merger of the cities of Dessau and Roßlau in 2006, the two handball clubs Dessau HV and TV Roßlau merged on July 1, 2006 to form Dessau-Roßlauer HV .

On April 1, 2007, the previous club president Demirtas resigned. The official business from then on was directed by the rest of the board and the de facto successor Thomas Zänger. Since the club was in debt in six figures, there were problems with the award of the license for the 2007/2008 season. However, thanks to the great commitment of the fans and sponsorship money, a sum of € 290,000 was raised with which the license could be secured. Since then, the association has been "renovated". Approximately € 20,000 per month are used to reduce debts in order to be debt-free at the beginning of the next season and thus avoid problems with licensing. On June 19, 2007, Georgi Swiridenko , who was Olympic champion with the USSR in Seoul in 1988, surprisingly announced his contract as head coach and took over the position of coach at HSG Düsseldorf . He was succeeded by Peter Pysall , who was on leave on May 8, 2011. His successor was again Georgi Swiridenko.

At the end of the 2010/2011 season in the 2. Handball Bundesliga , the club was on a relegation place. Against the SC DHfK Leipzig Handball , the club lost the following relegation game and thus rose after 19 years from the 2nd Bundesliga.

The most important local rivals are Anhalt Bernburg, 1. SV Concordia Delitzsch and SC Magdeburg . The average number of spectators in the Anhalt Arena at home is around 1,300, the second highest in the 2nd Bundesliga.

In the 2015/16 season, the Dessau-Roßlauer HV managed to return to the 2nd handball Bundesliga by winning the North Season of the 3rd League. The promotion could already be achieved 2 game days before the end of the season. The league in the first season in the 2nd handball Bundesliga since 2011 was achieved with a balanced point ratio and 10th place in the 2016/17 season .

Youth work

The male A-youths achieved third place in the regional league, the highest possible division, in the 2005/2006 season and also defeated the eventual champions SC Magdeburg. This success could be repeated in the following season. Some of the former A-youths played in the German youth national teams. After the double won at the state level by the second team of the DRHV, the concept of slowly approaching the Bundesliga team broke away almost completely. Six players with prospects for the Second Bundesliga left the club. In the male junior division, the regional league team was withdrawn and it was not until the summer of 2009 that a syndicate with SG Kühnau for the regional league was entered into for the new season in order to become more attractive to potential young players again.

Important players

Former goalkeeper Matías Carlos Schulz was voted fifth best goalkeeper at the 2005 World Cup and was also part of the Argentine national team at the 2007 Handball World Cup in Germany, which was preparing for this tournament in Dessau. Armands Uščins was a member of the Latvian national team. In the 2013/2014 season, the Australian international Luka Kraijnc ran for the Beavers.

Marek Vanco and Libor Hanisch are players of the Czech national team from the current 2017/18 season .
