history

After the reunification , the Dessauer SV ZAB was founded in 1990 as the successor to the BSG ZAB Dessau . In addition, the club sees itself as the successor to Dessauer SV 98 , which was dissolved after the Second World War. The new club could not build on the football success of Dessauer SV 98. In contrast, the handball department was able to build on the success of the company sports community in the GDR. In the 1989/90 season, the company sports community rose to the GDR Oberliga and Dessauer SV ZAB took the opportunity to participate in the last season of the GDR Oberliga.

The Dessau handball players finished the 1990/91 season in eighth place and thus qualified for the handball Bundesliga . They were divided into the season south and took twelfth place at the end of the season. So the Dessau could not keep the class and had to relegate to the 2nd Bundesliga . In the season in the middle of the 2nd Bundesliga 1992/93 they finished behind OSC 04 Rheinhausen and HSV Suhl and thus missed direct re-promotion. In the now two-pronged 2. Bundesliga, the team from Dessau always occupied midfield up to the 1995/96 season.

After the season, the handball department left Dessauer SV ZAB due to the club's financial problems and founded the Dessau HV . After the insolvency of the association in 1997, the other departments founded Dessauer SV 97 , which, like Dessauer SV ZAB, is a multi- branch association .
