The women's field handball team of BSG Polysius qualified for the two-track women's league, which was held for the first time in 1954, and took fourth place in season II. Because the GDR league was played in the calendar year from 1956, a trophy was held as a transition round in 1955. In the quarter-finals, the women from Dessau met BSG Progress Neugersdorf away from home. With a victory they qualified for the semifinals and were there defeated by the later cup winner SC Progress Weissenfels . After they finished third in the 1956 and 1957 seasons, they missed the game for the GDR championship in the 1958 season with second place behind the BSG Lokomotive Rangsdorf . Soccer

1949 was reorganized in the football game operation in the Soviet zone of occupation . The football league of the German Sports Committee (later GDR Oberliga ) was set up as the top division , so that the existing national classes became second class. In Saxony-Anhalt, under the state class, there was the district class consisting of several seasons as the third division. The BSG Polysius Dessau was in the middle of the first season. It stayed there until 1955, but had only been in fourth class since the 1950/51 season due to the introduction of the new second-rate GDR league . In 1955 it was promoted to the Halle district league , which became the fourth league through the establishment of the 2nd GDR league. In the 1958 season (calendar year season) Dessau started as BSG ZEMAG, in 1959 under the name BSG ZAB. In the same year Dessau rose from the district league without returning there. In 1989 the BSG ZAB withdrew its soccer team from the district class.
