Fabian van Olphen (born March 30, 1981 in The Hague ) is a former Dutch handball player .
Van Olphen, who played for TBV Lemgo and played for the Dutch men's national handball team, was mostly used in the left backcourt , but his strengths lay mainly in defense.
Fabian van Olphen comes from a handball-loving family. His two older brothers and his mother were national players, his father played in the first Dutch league.
Van Olphen made his debut for Van der Voort / Quintus from Kwintsheul, a town in the area of The Hague, in the first Dutch league. In the 2001 season he was voted Dutch player of the year and then moved - as the youngest Dutch player ever - abroad, to TV Emsdetten in the 2nd handball league . Van Olphen did not feel at home there and returned to the Netherlands after just a month. Only after two more years did he feel ripe for the step abroad and in the summer of 2003 he went to the German second division club TuS N-Lübbecke . With Lübbecke he rose in the following season with 68: 0 points in the first handball Bundesliga . There he drew attention to himself mainly because of his defensive strength, so that in 2006 he was signed by SC Magdeburg . With the Elbe cities, he won the EHF Cup in 2007 and the DHB Cup in 2016 . For the 2007/08 season, Van Olphen was elected captain of his team. From the 2017/18 season he was under contract with TBV Lemgo . In January 2020, he announced his retirement due to a ruptured cruciate ligament.
