Lars Geipel (born March 5, 1975 ) is a German handball referee . Together with Marcus Helbig he forms the elite squad team Geipel / Helbig.

Geipel has been a referee since 1990 and has been whistling with his team partner Marcus Helbig since 1993. In 2001 both were included in the former A-squad (today the elite squad) of the German Handball Federation. In 2004 they were accepted into the squad of the European Handball Federation (EHF), and in 2005 they were appointed to the squad of the International Handball Federation (IHF).

In 2011, they both whistled the semi-final of the men's handball world championship between Sweden and France, in 2012 the semi-final at the Olympic Games in London between Sweden and Hungary and in 2014 the semi-final between Denmark and Croatia at the European Championships in Denmark.

On June 1, 2012, Geipel and his team partner were elected referee for the 2011/2012 season .

The team of referees was nominated for the 2016 European Handball Championship in Poland at the beginning of 2016 and whistled various duels there in the preliminary and main round. In January 2017, both were also in action at the 2017 Handball World Cup in France. In 2017 and 2019 the team led the final of the EHF Champions League together .

In his main job, the qualified journalist is deputy editor-in-chief of the Mitteldeutsche Zeitung . He lives in Leipzig and is single.
