history

After the desire for a new multifunctional hall in many Solingen sports clubs became louder and louder, in the early 1970s the city finally started building a hall on Weyersberg opposite the Spar- und Bauvereinssiedlung . The hall was officially opened on August 18, 1973. The new hall was given its current name a few months later.

From the start of construction in April 2010, the Klingenhalle swimming pool was expanded to include an additional 25-meter pool to the north with funds from the economic stimulus package II . The construction costs totaled around 6.8 million euros. After a construction period of 13 months, the swimming pool was largely completed in May 2011 and opened to the public on September 7, 2011. In this context, the indoor swimming pool in the Ohligs district was taken out of service.

For the first division handball , the hall was used for the first time from 2000 to 2002 by the then SG Solingen . When the Bergischer HC fusion club rose to the top division again in 2011, minor structural changes were necessary, for example 200 additional seats were created in the summer of 2013 for 60,000 euros.
