The Flens Arena (originally: Campus Hall ) is a multi-purpose hall in the Sandberg district of the Schleswig-Holstein city of Flensburg . It is located on the university campus of the University of Flensburg and the University of Flensburg .
location
The hall is located on the edge of the campus about two kilometers from downtown Flensburg . The Fördehalle, in which many of the city's larger events, including handball games, used to take place, is almost four kilometers away, near the Exe in the Friesischer Berg district .
history
The hall, built in 2001, is used for university sports. In the building complex there is a fitness studio and rooms that are used for the training of sports teacher students . The hall is also used as an event space for concerts, university parties, trade fairs and exhibitions. The handball Bundesliga club SG Flensburg-Handewitt has been playing its home games there since December 2, 2001 . The hall has a capacity of 6300 spectators and at the time of its opening had the largest standing stand in the handball Bundesliga with over 1500 seats .
The originally nameless area at the entrance in front of the hall was officially named by the city of Flensburg after the handball player Lars Christiansen in August 2010 . A yellow sign now indicates the name Lars-Christiansen-Platz .
The hall has been operated by Förde Show Concept GmbH from Flensburg since January 1st, 2012.
With the entry of the Flensburger Brewery as the successor to the Nord-Ostsee Sparkasse as the main hall sponsor, the hall, which was previously called the Campus Hall, was renamed the Flens Arena on November 14, 2012 .
