From 1990 Christiansen ran for Ribe HK and two years later switched to KIF Kolding . With Kolding he won the Danish championship twice and the Danish cup once.
Christiansen played from the 1996/97 season at SG Flensburg-Handewitt with the number 15 on his back. In his first season at SG, in which the team won the EHF Cup , he was initially just a reservist behind the then German national player Holger Schneider . In the 1997/98 season he was the first scorer in the Flensburg jersey. With the Euro-City-Cup 1999 and the European Cup Winners' Cup 2001, two further international titles followed. In 2003 he won the first national title with the SG, the DHB Cup . In the final, Christiansen scored the decisive goal in extra time for the 31:30 success against TUSEM Essen . In the following two seasons, the SG was able to successfully defend its title in the DHB Cup. In the 2003/04 season Christiansen won the German championship with the SG.
Christiansen left SG Flensburg-Handewitt in summer 2010. In the 14 seasons at SG, the Dane played a total of 626 competitive games for Flensburg, in which he threw 3996 goals (1623 seven meters ). In the same year Christiansen took part in the Olympic Games , in which he finished seventh. After missing a podium at the 2009 World Cup and the 2010 European Championship , he finished second with the Danish selection at the 2011 World Cup . A year later he won his second European title .
Christiansen played his last international match against Germany on April 7, 2012. After the winger was not called into the squad for the 2012 Olympics , he ended his career.
