The handball Bundesliga 2011/12 (full name after the main sponsor Toyota Handball-Bundesliga 2011/12 ) was the 34th of the single-track seasons and the 46th season of the highest German division in men's handball in the history of the Bundesliga . The season began on September 3, 2011 and ended with the last game day on June 2, 2012.
18 teams played for the German championship. The first in the table on the last day of the match is German Champion 2012. The newcomers to the new season were Eintracht Hildesheim , Bergische HC 06 and TV 05/07 Hüttenberg . In addition, the DHB Cup was played for the 38th time.
The German champion 2012 was the team of the THW Kiel for the 17th time in the club's history . For the first time in the history of the Bundesliga, a club managed to end the season without losing points.
Since this season, the last three clubs in the final table were relegated directly to the 2nd Bundesliga . These were the Bergische HC 06 , the TV 05/07 Hüttenberg and Eintracht Hildesheim .
In 306 games, with a total of 17,274 goals (ø 56.5 per game), an average of 0.1 fewer goals than in the 2010/11 season . There were 170 home wins, 22 draws and 114 away wins. The Füchse Berlin recorded their highest home win on matchday 24 with 36:18 against Eintracht Hildesheim . The highest away win was achieved by the THW Kiel team on matchday 22 with 24:43 at TSV Hannover-Burgdorf . The highest-scoring game took place on matchday 31 between HSV Hamburg and THW Kiel and ended 34:38. That was 15 goals more than the overall average. THW Kiel was at the top of the table throughout the season. The top scorer was Uwe Gensheimer from the Rhein-Neckar Löwen with 247/84 goals .
The THW Kiel team secured the DHB Cup, which was played for the 38th time .
Eight German teams also competed in European competitions. The THW Kiel won the EHF Champions League 2011/12 , the SG Flensburg-Handewitt secured the EHF European Cup Winners' Cup 2011/12 and Frisch Auf Göppingen won as of last season the 2011-12 EHF Cup .
