Andrej Klimovets (originally Belarusian Андрэй Клімавец  /  Andrej Klimawez ; born August 18, 1974 in Homel , Belarusian SSR ) is a German handball coach and a former German and Belarusian national player. His playing position was the circle position in attack .

Career

From February 2012 he was under contract with HSG Wetzlar in the first handball league . Since he still had a license to play for TSG Haßloch when he first played for HSG Wetzlar , he was banned by the DHB Federal Court for the entire 2011/2012 season. From September 2012 he played with TGS Pforzheim in the handball league Baden-Württemberg . In December 2012, he extended his contract, which only lasted for a year, until the end of the season. In August 2013 Klimovets took over the vacant coaching position at TGS Pforzheim and ended his career as an active player. After the 2018/19 season he ended his work in Pforzheim.

With SK Homel and SKA Minsk Klimovets was a total of six times Belarusian champion. Klimovets played 101 international matches for Belarus, scoring 328 goals. In 1996 he came to the Federal Republic of Germany and received German citizenship in 2005 . He made his international debut for Germany on October 26, 2005 in Bremen against Croatia . At the 2007 Handball World Cup, Klimovets injured himself while warming up before the game against Argentina on January 21, 2007. Due to the torn muscle fiber in his right calf, he could no longer be used in the following games until the semi-finals. Heiner Brand nominated Christian Schwarzer for him . In the semifinals against France and in the final against Poland, however, he was able to be used again and had a share in the world championship title mainly through his defensive work. For this triumph he was awarded the silver bay leaf .

Klimovets is 1.97 m tall and weighs 103 kg. The trained sports teacher is married and has two children.
