Handball Oberliga Baden-Württemberg men
The Baden-Württemberg Oberliga (BWOL) is the joint top division of the three independent regional associations Badischer Handball-Verband , Südbadischer Handballverband and Handballverband Württemberg , which belong to the superordinate regional association of the Süddeutscher Handballverband (SHV). It is the fourth highest division in the German Handball Federation (DHB) after the handball Bundesliga , the 2nd Bundesliga and the 3rd league .
The league was newly introduced for the 2000/01 season. After the end of the previous season, 16 clubs qualified for this: six relegated teams from what was then Regionalliga Süd and ten representatives from the top leagues of the three regional associations.
BWOL champions and vice-champions have been directly qualified for the next higher division since the 2003/04 season; up to the 2008/09 season it was the Regionalliga Süd, after the league structural reform of the DHB 2009, the southern season of the 3rd division.
