The SG BBM Bietigheim (formerly SG Bietigheim-Metterzimmer ) is a handball community from Bietigheim-Bissingen .

history

Former logo

The syndicate was founded in 1997 by the two parent clubs TSV Bietigheim and TV Metterzimmer .

In July 2007 the merger was expanded and the third club from the city of Bietigheim-Bissingen, SpVgg Bissingen , joined the syndicate, initially only with the men's area and since July 2008 also with the women's area.

Men

The men's team started after the merger in 1997 in the national league. After the team was promoted to the 2nd handball Bundesliga in 2005 , they achieved their greatest success to date with promotion to the Bundesliga in 2014 . After the direct relegation followed in 2018 the renewed promotion to the "strongest league in the world". There they would have left the relegation places on the last match day with a win against their direct rivals VfL Gummersbach , but the 25:25 draw in the “relegation thriller” ultimately benefited Die Eulen Ludwigshafen and Bietigheim had to return to the second division.

Women

The women's team rose to the 1st Bundesliga in 2010 . After finishing the season in third place in the table, they met BVB Füchse Berlin in the play-off games , who were clearly defeated in both games. In the play-off final they faced HSG Bensheim / Auerbach , to which they had lost both league games. In the first leg there was another defeat, but with a clear victory in the second leg at the end, the direct march through to the top German league succeeded.

The team celebrated its greatest success in 2017 when it won the German championship ; all games were won. In addition, the women were in the final of the EHF Cup in the 2016/17 season . In 2019, Bietigheim won the championship for the second time.

Venue

The women of SG BBM Bietigheim usually play their home games in the hall at the Viadukt in Bietigheim-Bissingen. Due to the indoor standards of the DKB Handball Bundesliga, the men will only play their home games in the MHPArena in Ludwigsburg and the EgeTrans Arena in Bietigheim-Bissingen from 2014/2015. Since the 2017/2018 season, the men have played most of their games in the EgeTrans Arena, and the women have played most of their games in the MHPArena.
