Aron Rafn Eðvarðsson (born September 1, 1989 in Reykjavík ) is an Icelandic handball player .
The 2.05 m tall and 97 kg heavy handball goalkeeper plays for the German club SG BBM Bietigheim and plays for the Icelandic national team .
Career
Aron Rafn Eðvarðsson was in the first team of the Icelandic club Haukar Hafnarfjörður from 2006 , with whom he became champions in 2008, 2009 and 2010 and cup winners in 2010 and 2012. Internationally, he reached the third round in the EHF Cup in 2006/07 and 2010/11 as well as the round of 16 in 2009/10, the group stage of the EHF Champions League in 2008/09, the round of 16 in the European Cup Winners' Cup 2008/09 and the second round in EHF Europe Cup 2012/13. From 2013 he played for the Swedish first division club IF Guif , with whom he won the league round in 2014 ( Seriesegrare ). In the subsequent play-offs he was defeated by the eventual champions Alingsås HK in the semifinals. From summer 2015 he played for the Danish first division club Aalborg Håndbold . In January 2016 he switched to the German club SG BBM Bietigheim . In the summer of 2017 he joined the Icelandic first division club ÍBV Vestmannaeyja . With ÍBV he won the Icelandic Championship and the Icelandic Cup in 2018. From summer 2018 he ran for the handball sports club Hamburg . On February 16, 2020 it was announced that he was moving to SG BBM Bietigheim with immediate effect. He signed a contract until 2022.
With the Icelandic national team, Aron Rafn Eðvarðsson took part in the 2012 European Championship , the 2013 World Championship and the 2014 European Championship . So far, he has played 84 international matches .
