Career

society

Michael Kraus played in his youth at TSG Eislingen, TS Göppingen , with whom he was Wuerttemberg champion with the B-youth in 2000 , and TSV Deizisau. From 2002 he ran for the Bundesliga club Frisch Auf Göppingen , with whom he reached the final of the EHF Cup in 2006 , which Göppingen lost to TBV Lemgo . In 2007 he moved to TBV Lemgo, which he left after three years and joined HSV Hamburg . A payment of 300,000 euros was due for this change; According to information from the website handball-world.com, Kraus himself paid a large part of this sum from his private fortune. With the Hamburg team, Kraus won the DHB Supercup in 2010 , the German Championship in 2011 and the EHF Champions League in 2013 , where he contributed six goals to the 30:29 final victory over FC Barcelona . In 2013 he went back to Frisch Auf Göppingen.

On July 23, 2014, Kraus was temporarily suspended by the Anti-Doping Commission of the German Handball Federation (DHB). He was accused of having committed three reporting and control failures within 18 months. On August 28, 2014, he was acquitted of the charge because he “failed to check on November 20, 2013 [...] could not be proven to be at fault”. The NADA however, appealed and took the case to the DHB -Ad-hoc arbitration. There, the parties agreed on an arbitration award, according to which Kraus was suspended for three months with retroactive effect from May 27, 2014.

With Frisch Auf Göppingen, Kraus won the EHF Cup in May 2016 in the final in Nantes, France, against the hosts of HBC Nantes. In summer 2016 he joined the TVB 1898 Stuttgart . On October 18, 2018, he threw 18 goals (3 seven meters) in the 37:34 home game against TSV Hannover-Burgdorf ; the Bundesliga record is 21 goals. In February 2019, Kraus left the TVB and switched to SG BBM Bietigheim .

National team

Kraus' international debut in the DHB jersey was against Russia in Paris on March 25, 2005 . In 2007 he became world champion with the German national team . He was appointed to the tournament's all-star team. He was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf for winning the title. On January 28, 2008 he was removed from the German national team by the then national coach Heiner Brand for the next international matches. Brand did this with reference to the, in his opinion, poor performance at the 2008 European Championship . With some good performances in the Bundesliga, however, he could play his way back into the team. On February 20, 2008 he was recalled to the national team. In 2008 he was also part of the DHB Olympic team at the Olympic Games in Beijing. After not playing in the national team for three years, Kraus made a comeback against Hungary on April 4, 2014 .
