Christian Kraus (born September 8, 1978 ) is a German saber fencer .

Life

The right-hander Kraus was trained by Joachim Rieg until 2005, then by Vitaly Voytov and started for TSG Eislingen . He was German champion several times and took part in numerous world and European championships. In 2008 he ended his career as an active fencer and has been married to his wife, the presenter Tina Kraus , since 2010 . Kraus is the older brother of handball national player Michael Kraus .

successes

After he finished third in 1996 and second in 1997 at the junior world championships and in 1995 he was vice world champion of the cadets , he became junior world champion in 1998 both individually and with the team.

Later he took part in a total of four world championships and two European championships. At the 2001 World Championships in Nîmes he lost with the saber team, weakened by the injury of Wiradech Kothny , only just 40 to 45 hits in the battle for third place against Romania and was fourth. In addition to Kothny and Kraus, Dennis Bauer from Koblenz and Michael Herm, who also fights for Eislingen, also fought in the team. In the individual, he finished 32nd, his best placement at a world championship. Also at the 2003 World Cup , he finished fourth with the team. His best individual placement at a European Championship was 20th place at the 2006 European Championships in Izmir. In 2002 he won the World Cup in London.

For three years, in 2003 , 2004 and 2005 , he was German saber singles champion without interruption. With the team of TSG Eislingen he was also third in the 2008 German team championship.
