Laura van der Heijden (born June 27, 1990 in Amersfoort ) is a Dutch handball player .

Career

Laura van der Heijden began playing handball at the age of six, initially at LHV Leusden. She later played for Venus Nieuwegein and VOC Amsterdam, with which she won the Dutch championship in 2010 and the Dutch Cup in 2010. From 2006 to 2010 she also played for the HandbalAcademie . From the 2010/11 season, the 1.73 meter tall back player played in the German Bundesliga at VfL Oldenburg , with which she won the DHB Cup in 2012 . Van der Heijden reached the semi-finals of the EHF Cup 2010/11 with Oldenburg. From summer 2014 she played for the Danish first division team Esbjerg . In 2015 she became runner-up and in 2016 she won the Danish championship and the Supercup. In the 2017/18 season, van der Heijden was under contract with the Hungarian association FTC Rail Cargo Hungaria , with whom she became Hungarian runner-up. She then moved to the German Bundesliga club SG BBM Bietigheim . With Bietigheim she won the German championship in 2019. Since the 2020/21 season she has been playing for the Hungarian first division club Siófok KC .

For the Dutch national team , van der Heijden has so far played 203 international matches , in which they scored 626 goals. She participated in the World Championships in 2011 , 2013 , 2015 and 2017 in part. With the Netherlands she took part in the EM in 2010, 2014 and 2016. She also took part in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . Van der Heijden won the silver medal at the 2015 World Championships and the 2016 European Championships as well as the bronze medal at the 2017 World Championships and the 2018 European Championships . She previously won the bronze medal at the U-17 European Championship (2007). At the U-20 World Cup in South Korea in 2010 , van der Heijden finished fifth and finished second in the top scorer list. At the 2019 World Cup , she won the World Cup title in the final against the Spanish selection.
