Amelie Berger (born July 22, 1999 in Tübingen ) is a German handball player who plays for the Bundesliga club SG BBM Bietigheim .
Career
Berger started playing handball at the age of eight. As a youth player, she moved from her home club SV 64 Zweibrücken to Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2015 . Here she first played for the 2nd team in the 3rd division and in the youth field. With the A-youth she became German runner-up in 2016 and 2017. After a dramatic final against Buxtehuder SV (31:30 after a seven-meter throw), Berger won the German A-Youth Championship with Bayer Leverkusen on June 3, 2018.
Already on November 16, 2016, she made her debut in the handball Bundesliga women (HBF): In the jersey of the elves , the left-hander ran against the Thuringian HC . In summer 2019 she moved to league competitor SG BBM Bietigheim .
Berger went through all DHB junior teams and is part of the DHB elite squad founded in 2018 . According to DHB sports director Axel Kromer, it is a "prime example" of this elite support concept.
Internationally, she played her first major tournament at the U-20 World Cup in 2016 in Russia. Participation in the U-19 European Championship 2017 in Slovenia and the U-20 World Cup 2018 in Hungary followed. Berger made her international debut for the German national team on September 29, 2018 in Dessau against Russia . For the European championship taking place in France , national coach Henk Groener surprisingly appointed Berger to the squad.
