Henk Groener (born September 29, 1960 in Leersum , Netherlands ) is a former Dutch handball player and current handball coach .

Career

Groener started playing handball at the Dutch club Swift Arnhem at the age of eight. After Groener then ran for the German association TV Emsdetten , the Swiss association Wacker Thun and the German association TV Aldekerk , he returned to Swift Arnhem. In 1993 he ended his career. Groener also played 208 international matches for the Dutch national team , for which he scored 519 goals.

Groener trained the Dutch club HAKA / E & O Emmen from 1993. In 1996 Groener moved to the German second division TV Emsdetten, which he was in charge of for six years. He then worked for three years as the national coach of the Dutch men's national team. In the 2006/07 season he coached the German second division club HBR Ludwigsburg . Groener took over as coach of the Dutch women's national team in 2009 . Under his leadership, the Netherlands took second place at the 2015 World Cup and fourth place at the 2016 Olympic Games . Shortly after the Olympic Games, he stopped working for the Dutch handball association. In January 2018, Groener took over as coach of the German women's national team .
