The Turn- und Sportvereinigung Metzingen eV is a German sports club from the city of Metzingen in Baden-Württemberg . The club is known nationwide for its women's handball team, which has been competing in the 1st Bundesliga since the 2012/13 season .

history

In 1978 the TuSsies , as they call themselves, became known nationwide for the first time when they surprisingly advanced into the final of the DHB Cup as a second-rate regional division (the 2nd Bundesliga was only introduced in 1985) , but at 10:27 against TuS Eintracht Minden had no chance. In 1980 they made it to the cup final again, this time losing in two final games (10:22, 6:24) against Bayer Leverkusen .

In 1987 TuS Metzingen rose to the 2nd Bundesliga , which, however, was third from bottom and was immediately relegated with 12:24 points - a single point was missing to keep the league. In 1991 he made his second promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga, which Metzingen then belonged to until 2012. In 1997 TuS even won the title in the 2nd Bundesliga South, but declared that it would not be promoted to the 1st Bundesliga for economic reasons . Another success in the DHB Cup followed in 2000 when TuS made it into the Final Four . There Metzingen lost against HC Leipzig with 29:35.

In the 2006/07 season, the women from Metzingen qualified for promotion to the Bundesliga with four wins in the playoffs. But since they had previously used an ineligible player in the league games, they were deprived of six points, which meant they were downgraded to fifth place. This in turn meant that the TuSsies were not qualified for the promotion play-offs, which meant that the entire promotion round of Group B, which was actually won by Metzingen, had to be repeated.

In the 2011/12 season, TuS Metzingen won the championship in the newly created single-track 2nd Bundesliga with 50:10 points and thus rose directly to the 1st Bundesliga. In the 2015/16 season Metzingen was German runner-up and was in the final of the EHF Cup .

In the 2016/17 season, TuS Metzingen set a new record in the Bundesliga with 6,157 spectators at their home game against TV Nellingen in the Stuttgart Porsche Arena .
