Tomtabacken

At 377 meters above sea level, the Tomtabacken is the highest point in Småland , the southern Swedish highlands and Götaland . The mountain is located in the municipality of Nässjö , about 22 km southwest of the main town. On the fairly flat summit there is an observation tower with a view of the Småland landscape for miles.

In January the average temperature on Tomtabacken is -4 ° C, just as cold as in Dalsland or Uppland, for example . But not only in winter is the temperature lower than the surrounding area, in July the average temperature is 14 ° C - the same average temperature as in Jokkmokk on the Arctic Circle.

There are two ways to get to Tomtabacken: on foot along the Höglandsleden hiking trail , which is just past the tower. You can also drive from Malmbäck or Vrigstad . There is parking near the observation tower (space for about five cars). From there you walk a short distance. The tower is visible from the parking lot. A sign is attached to the tower to warn that climbing is at your own risk.
