Vrigstad is a place ( Tatort ) in the Swedish province of Jönköpings län and the historic province of Småland .

The place is located on the southern slope of the Småland highlands at an altitude of about 200 meters above sea level and is surrounded by lakes and forests.

history

The place in the municipality of Sävsjö is an old trading post and lies along the trade route Vetlanda - Värnamo . Vrigstadsån flows through the village . The name Vrigstads is said to derive from the place on the winding river . In the immediate vicinity there is a stone setting as well as remains of domestic settlements from the Stone and Bronze Ages .

There was an inn in the village in which the famous biologist Carl von Linné also stayed. The tradition is carried on from Vrigstads Wärdshus , located near the church .

Several industrial companies settled on the river, but they no longer exist today. So there were breweries, dye works and tanneries. Today there are mainly wood industry companies in the village that use the surrounding forests as suppliers of raw materials, such as sawmills and companies that manufacture furniture and prefabricated houses.

Vrigstad was an important trading center until the 18th century, but the place lost its importance with the construction of the Södra stambanan and the associated opening of the railway station in the neighboring village of Sävsjö .

In 1971 Vrigstad became part of the Sävsjö municipality.
