Murray is a city of 15,725 inhabitants (2006 estimate) in the US state of Kentucky and the seat of the county government of Calloway County . It is named after the politician John L. Murray .

Murray is located in southwest Kentucky at an altitude of 157 m. The city occupies an area of ​​25.1 km 2 . The nearest major cities are: Clarksville (about 65 km east), Nashville (110 km southeast) and Chicago (360 km north). About eight miles south is the border with the state of Tennessee . The Land Between The Lakes Recreation Area is approximately 25 km to the east.
