Murray is a city of 15,725 inhabitants (2006 estimate) in the US state of Kentucky and the seat of the county government of Calloway County . It is named after the politician John L. Murray .

Murray is located in southwest Kentucky at an altitude of 157 m. The city occupies an area of 25.1 km 2 . The nearest major cities are: Clarksville (about 65 km east), Nashville (110 km southeast) and Chicago (360 km north). About eight miles south is the border with the state of Tennessee . The Land Between The Lakes Recreation Area is approximately 25 km to the east.

Infrastructure
The main artery is US Highway 641 , a side stretch of US Highway 41 that runs right through the city. It connects to Interstate 24 to the north and Interstate 40 to the south. Murray owns an airfield, Murray-Calloway County Airport .
