Vetlanda (formerly Hvetlanda ) is a town in the Swedish province of Jönköpings län and the historic province of Småland . The place is the main town of the municipality of the same name .
history
Around the year 1000 a settlement developed here, which was of regional importance as a place for markets and for meetings of the judiciary. The town charter was Vetlanda at the beginning of 1920. In the 1960s, many wooden houses that have shaped the look of the place until then were demolished as part of a so-called "rehabilitation". For a long time Vetlanda was a railway junction, but today there is only one freight line and the connection to Nässjö .
In 1974 the new town house was inaugurated. The building aroused strong discussions among the population because it was built in a modern style and was then nicknamed the Tower of Babel . The largest economic area of the place is the wood processing industry.
traffic
Vetlanda used to be a small railway junction, where the Sävsjö – Målilla and Sävsjöström – Nässjö Järnväg lines met.
