Sävsjö is a municipality ( Swedish kommun ) in the Swedish province of Jönköpings län and the historic province of Småland . The main town of the municipality is Sävsjö .
geography
The area of the municipality is characterized by the hills of the southern Swedish highlands , extensive forest areas and a large number of lakes. The larger lakes include the Allgunnen in the south and Vallsjön , Linnesjön and Frissjön in the east. There are also various smaller lakes such as Skärsjön . Larger rivers are the Bodaan the Lillån and Vrigstadsån . The small Sankt-Siegfried-Quelle is also known because of a legend about its origin .
The railway line Södra stambanan runs from north to south through the municipality, touching the localities of Sävsjö , Stockaryd and Rörvik . The Höglandsleden hiking trail from Sävsjö via Hultsjö to Äpplaryd also crosses the municipality in a north-south direction .

Localities ( tätorter ) of the community are Rörvik , Sävsjö , Stockaryd and Vrigstad . As Småorter consist Hultagård and Hylletofta . Until 2005, Hjälmseryd was also known as Småort. There are also many smaller villages and hamlets, including Hultsjö , Komstad , Norra Ljunga and Skepperstad .
The village of Möcklehult is located in the southwest of the municipality . The writer Peter Nilson described Möcklehult in his book Den gamla byn (German: The old village ).

In the municipality there are various prehistoric graves and rune stones, such as the Bronze Age

- As a rune stones of are Sibbestenen , Terlestenen , Vallsjöstenen and Västragårdstenen to mention.
- There are also several Romanesque churches dating back to the 12th century . In Gamla Hjälmseryd in the west of the municipality is the church of Gamla Hjälmseryd . Other churches are the Old Church of Vallsjö , the Church of Hylletofta , the Church of Norra Ljunga , the Church of Hjärtlanda and the Church of Skepperstad . More recent are the Church of Hjälmseryd , the Church of Hultsjö , the Church of Stockaryd , the New Church of Vallsjö and the Church of Vrigstad .
- The castle ruin Eksjöhovgård is located southeast of the town of Sävsjös on an island in the lake Eksjöhovgårdssjö.
With Gamla Bankgården in Vrigstad, the municipality also has a bank museum. The Dragets skolmuseum school museum is located in Draget near Rörvik . A fire brigade and a shoemaker's museum are located in Sävsjö.
The village of Komstad , a little west of Sävsjö, is partly designed as an open-air museum. The Sanatorieskogen is a forest and park in Sävsjö used as a recreational area.
